Douglas Lloyd Jenkins’ first novel is an intense love story and a love song to Auckland’s vanishing past, depicting the myriad complexities of male relationships, the possibilities offered by chance encounters and the exquisite beauty of friendship - and a home - found in unexpected places.

Join Douglas in conversation with Richard Cornes, for this discussion of love and loss, beauty and belonging.

Douglas Lloyd Jenkins
Born in West Auckland, Douglas Lloyd Jenkins grew up on the North Shore before moving to the CBD in time to observe the first wave of demolition. It was here that he grew to love local architecture and design which in turn fuelled a career as an award-winning writer of non-fiction on the subjects of art, design and architecture. Now living in South Auckland – with his dog – Shelter is his first novel

Richard Cornes
Dr Richard Cornes' primary post is teaching law at Essex Law School in the UK. Alongside that though, runs his first passion: art and literature. A graduate in English from Auckland University (where he studied 20th century literature, film, and TV studies under Prof Emeritus Roger Horrocks; and creative writing under Professor Albert Wendt), he now maintains a creative practice in the visual arts.
