Join curator Dr Bronwyn Lloyd for a hosted conversation and morning tea to celebrate the opening of History Repeats: Petone Woollen Blankets, Petone Settlers Museum’s newest social history exhibit. Built around an heirloom blanket in the museum’s collection, the exhibition underlines the ways that history repeats, as well as charting the movement from home-based wool craft to industrial wool manufacture over the last century, and the revival of artisanal and heritage wool crafts in recent years.
In this special opening event, Bronwyn brings together key contributors to the display; Elaine Vermeeren (former employee at Petone Woollen Mills); Cheryl Eldridge (Director of Petone-based Stansborough Mill); Ruth Mansell (Korokoro historian); and Auckland artist Bronwynne Cornish, to discuss their interwoven wool-related stories from the Hutt Valley.
Dr Bronwyn Lloyd is the Public Programmes Coordinator at Objectspace, a freelance curator and art writer as well as an avid crafter and applied arts collector. She lives is Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. She is 2021 Blumhardt Curator, a new programme developed by the Blumhardt Foundation in partnership with Creative New Zealand.
