Why music matters to me, and why it should matter to you.
About Professor Peter Adams’s research
Peter's research expertise is in two areas: his professional practice as a conductor and musical director, and his creative work as a composer of new original music. His conducting career spans 40 years, and as well as working with nearly every local musical organisation he has given concerts all around the country conducting regional orchestras and brass bands.
Peter is something of a specialist in conducting young people – he has a long-standing relationship with the Dunedin Youth Orchestra and the Waitaki Summer Music School, and has been musical director of the National Youth Brass Band of New Zealand (taking them to China in 2012), and the NZ Secondary Schools Symphony Orchestra.
As a composer, Peter has works for orchestra, brass band and chamber ensembles, and his music has been widely performed. His work has been recorded on Rattle Records and RNZ ‘Resound' and published by Promethean Editions.
