MUSICIAN GUEST: JOHN HANLON
Back to celebrate our turning 10 is NZ singer/ songwriter/author John Hanlon.

“I’ve been writing songs since I was a teenager. In the 1970s, thanks to the insight of others and a series of lucky breaks, I accidentally morphed into a recording artist and pop star. I had some Top Ten hits and my records earned a swag of awards. However, after few years I began evolving into an entertainer, just singing the same eight songs every night. This held no attraction for me. So, I walked away from the stage and confined my music activities to writing songs for various publishers. I did release an album in the 80s entitled SHORT STORIES but didn’t record again in earnest until the late 90s. A lot of good work ensued. Lately, I’ve discovered that the handful of Kiwis who do remember me, only really know my songs from the 70s. After that I am nothing but a distant memory — a reminder of a time that’s past. For years I’ve been philosophical, one might even say comfortable, with my growing anonymity. But a recent brush with death, (due to a hereditary condition), has reawakened my desire to reintroduce myself as a songwriter who has been writing good songs for over 50 years. And is still going strong. After listening to my small performance on August 10th, I hope you will agree.” - John
