Inside Out kicks off the year on Wednesday 9 February! Note two changes for the Feb meet: new venue and new start/end time.

We were planning to host you at new venue: MODAL on New North Rd, Mt Albert, but the need to allow more space under alert red means we need a bigger area, so we've moved a short way down the road from there to the MT ALBERT COMMUNITY & LEISURE CENTRE. The time is 6 00pm to 9 00pm while we are this venue.

Inside Out is using the Garlick Room - an airy space on the ground floor that opens out onto a deck with outdoor seating; perfect for these warm evenings! Everything else stays the same..
A warm welcome to all regular readers, and to newcomers!

BRING YOUR WRITING - poems, flash fiction, short story, novel excerpts, performance poetry etc - to share, or come as audience to hear what's brand new. Just sign up on the whiteboard as you arrive if you’d like to read and we go in that order.

New Venue
Mt Albert Community & Leisure Centre
773 New North Rd, close to the St Lukes Rd Intersection. There is masses of parking right by and easy access. Enter the main foyer, complete the Covid sign- in and turn left for the Garlick room. Attendees need to wear masks for arrival and departure through public spaces, be double vaccinated and show their ‘My Vaccine Pass’ on phone or paper as they arrive. Kia ora.

Musician Guest
Our guest Wed 9 Feb is Chris Priestley. Chris is a well-known musician and recording artist who has been pivotal in the Auckland folk music scene for decades. He is equally a business entrepreneur and culture creator. One of the founders of Real Groovy Records, he moved on to start such iconic music cafes as Java Jive and Ponsonby’s Atomic Café/ 121, which became important musical hubs for aspiring singer/songwriters. His recent albums ‘Unsung Heroes (Songs and Stories from New Zealand’s Distant Past)’’Rogue’ and hot off the press ‘Tales from Godzone’ are well-researched themes exploring our country’s folk music heritage as well as songs written about some of New Zealand’s most colourful historical characters.

Chris will have copies of ‘Tales from Godzone’ on the night.

MIGEL GAVIN, one of NZ's most accomplished guitarists and a brilliant composer and teacher will be accompanying Chris on his set.
