On Saturday 9th April, prepare to step with us into a new era for Hamilton Civic Choir, led by new Music Director Elise Bradley, with Chris Greenslade as our accompanist. This is our first programme of a themed season entitled ‘Into the Light’ in which we celebrate a wide repertoire of choral music from all over the world. Our first concert will have two performances to comply with current government guidelines.

The concert will take us all the way from Latin America, with Dan Davidson’s energetic Ritmo, to Syria, with Shireen Abu-Khader’s setting of Lammaa Badaa Yatathannaa, an Arabic love song. We are very proud to present works by New Zealand composers; David Hamilton’s A Blessing of Light and Douglas Mews’ stirring and evocative A Sound Came from Heaven. We will sing Lili Boulanger’s epic Hymne au Soleil as well as Johann Ludwig Bach’s motet “Das ist Meine Freude”, and 2 pieces by Brahms. The final bracket of this concert will feature Organist Dr. Phillip Smith, and Baritone Bradley Christensen as we explore one of the most popular English choral works - Vaughan Williams Five Mystical Songs - each one an exploration of faith, love and devotion.

With such a diverse repertoire of both classics and new pieces to embrace, please step into the light with us and don’t miss out on this opportunity to once again be filled with the power, joy and emotion of live music.

TWO performances to comply with current government guidelines.

NB These are Vaccine Pass events with 100 people limit at Red setting. (No free children at this concert.)
