Hear from our own education mātanga (experts) about what success in the classroom looks like from a Māori point of view, inspiring excellence for tauira Māori and efforts to break the shackles of systemic inquities. About our speakers
We are proud to count some of the country’s leading Māori education mātanga (experts) as our own. Hear from Dr Liana MacDonald (Ngāti Kuia, Rangitāne o Wairau, Ngāti Koata), Dr Melanie Riwai-Couch (Rangitāne o Wairau, Ngāti Kuia, Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō) and Dr Peter Meihana (Ngāti Kuia, Rangitāne o Wairau, Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō, Ngāi Tahu) and meet our Te Kāhui Mātauranga team. About Te Kāhui Mātauranga
Te Kāhui Mātauranga was revived by the eight iwi of Te Tauihu o Te Waka-a-Māui* in 2019 to promote educational pathways which support Māori excellence. The rōpū is made up of education experts representing all eight iwi and has set for itself six priority areas, including the development of resources to capture histories and stories of all Te Tauihu iwi to support the new Te Takanga o Te Wā/Aotearoa New Zealand Histories curriculum. Another key priority is supporting the education sector and practitioners across Te Tauihu to understand what educational success looks like from a te ao Māori viewpoint.

*The iwi of Te Tauihu are Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō, Ngāti Koata, Ngāti Kuia, Ngāti Rārua, Ngāti Tama ki te Waipounamu, Ngāti Toa Rangatira ki Wairau, Rangitāne o Wairau and Te Ātiawa o te Waka-a-Māui.
