Artists Layne Waerea (Te Arawa, Ngāti Kahungunu) and Chris Braddock invite you on excursions around central Ngāmotu, featuring sweaty conversations.
Departing from the gallery, the first excursion will end up at Pukekura Park. Participants will be offered custom-made 'Free' sweatsuits and 'Free' sweat cushion-bags, and the artists will lead us in a series of gentle exercises, designed to generate perspiration.
Combining an interest in Ngāmotu’s coastal location, the cultures of public sport, and questions around the use, ownership and guardianship of natural resources - including fresh and salt water - the artists employ humour and conversation to collaboratively explore how social and legal norms determine behaviour and relationships, and where opportunities for thinking and relating otherwise might emerge.
This performance takes place as part of Public Relations, a series of newly commissioned performances taking place between August and November 2022.
Join the artists again one week later on Saturday 17 September. The second excursion will take place at the Coastal Walkway.
