Several sheets of cheap newsprint paper,
a large drawing pad (A3)size at least or a block;

the following pencils HB, B2, B4, B6, F H2, H3, H5
charcoal sticks,
a white conte stick,

paper blending sticks or tortillons.

ABOUT ALAN
Alan has been actively making work (particularly drawing works in graphite) all his life, he has participated in four joint exhibitions and one successful solo exhibition. For several years Alan co-owned and ran a drawing school in Christchurch.

Alan enjoys the teaching processes and sharing his knowledge. His works are in private collections here and overseas.

Life drawing is always intense and it can be confronting for the novice, but it is always rewarding.

CREATIVITY, TECHNIQUE AND CONFIDENCE with Christine O’Donnell

Christine’s class will cover … creativity, from the initial idea seed to a painting. In this workshop we will focus on developing a vague idea into a painting/drawing. The classes will be a mix of theory/examples and ‘doing’. As we do this we will cover a variety of topics such as … what are you trying to communicate? What is your own style, canvas size, ratios, layering images, composition and thumbnail sketches.

The workshop is suitable for early-stage artists who are primarily working on their techniques; it will suit representational artists and a variety of mediums.

WHAT TO BRING
Sketchbook and pencils or charcoal for drawing initial sketches, and I suggest one or two different sized (ratios) of cheap boards or canvas panels for the initial stages of painting. Plus a small selection of your normal paint and brushes or pencils.

ABOUT CHRISTINE
