When the Margot Pierard Quartet recently played at the Blythe (Iona College) and launched into John Lennon's "Jealous Guy" it felt so authentically baptist an American woman was heard uncontrollably uttering a "come on" with her hands in the air...

Reviews have called her singing "truly jaw-dropping" (Rob Harbers) and "sublime, world-class" (Simon Sweetman).

She has become familiar to local audiences through her captivating performances with the Tropical Downbeat Orchestra and her hugely popular Hawke's Bay Arts Festival shows.

Margot grew up in a family where music was the sport of the house. World-class Margot is vastly experienced in the genres of jazz, blues and soul and covers the likes of Nina Simone, Etta James, and Donny Hathaway among many others.

The members of her quartet almost need no introduction:

Tom Pierard (Rihan Sheehan, Strike percussion, The Family Cactus) is one of New Zealand's finest drummers in any style, but for this performance the audience will be treated to his amazingly sensitive jazz playing.

Caleb Robinson (Little Bushman, John Psathas) is a criminally underrated New Zealand bass player. His groove is second to none, nothing gets past his ears and he is as musically solid as a diamond. In any other country he would be making every gig Pino Palladino couldn't!

Anton Wuts is mostly known to Hawkes Bay audiences as a saxophonist, but for this performance he will be exercising his ivory tickling abilities - let's hope the piano has a sense of humour...

In short - an evening NOT to be missed!

Music from 7.30pm.
