Join us for a Monica Brewster Evening with writer Mikaela Nyman, whose poetry, fiction and non-fiction has been widely published and anthologised in New Zealand and overseas.
Mikaela was born in the demilitarised Åland Islands in Finland and now calls Taranaki home. A keen collaborator across borders of geography, language and ethnicity, Mikaela has been described as a “literary activist”.

She co-edited 'Sista, Stanap Strong! A Vanuatu Women’s Anthology', alongside Vanuatu writer Rebecca Tobo Olul-Hossen. The first of its kind and written by three generations of women, its narrative arc stretches from the days of blackbirding to Independence in 1980 to Vanuatu's coming of age in 2020. The anthology went on to change the education curriculum in Vanuatu, meaning that for the first time, students will read texts by their own writers.

The Monica Brewster Evenings (MBE) in association with Govett Quilliam – The Lawyers bring an impressive array of national and international artists and cultural thinkers to New Plymouth. For a different kind of night out, join us for talks, presentations and performances in a casual and intimate atmosphere.
