Neil's involvement with Dunedin folk music goes back to 1970, when he allowed his very good friend John Penno to persuade him to come along to the Dunedin Folk Club. In those days it met on Friday nights in the basement of the Zodiac Café on George St. His taste in folk(ish) songs is diverse, ranging from Arlo Guthrie to Flanders and Swann. He is also an old fan of Tom Paxton, The Corries and Fred Dagg, all of whose songs he has been known to attempt in public, to the evident satisfaction of his audiences. And he has written the odd song and poem himself.
Neil's forte is the singing of humorous songs, and this will be his entire focus on the 20th. Whether your preference is for the elegant quirkiness of Flanders and Swann, or the loopy blokishness of Fred Dagg, or the delightful wit of Marcus Turner, Neil has something for you.
