Masks are a requirement in many essential places. It becomes difficult for Deaf & Hard of Hearing people who rely on visual communication to understand workers talking to them with a covered mouth.
Deaf people who use NZ Sign Language, need a way around this barrier that can protect all parties at the same time without the need to drop their masks to see their lips clearly.
Lip-reading isn't 100% accurate, yet does assist in some instances.
Knowing some sign language will help get around communication barriers while maintaining health safety.
