Class Name: Nuno felting and Eco dyeing

Class Size: 12 (max number of students)

Class Description

Over two days, participants will source eco dye colours found in home gardens, and in plants within The Learning Connexion campus. Quality materials such as the softest nuno (Japanese for fabric) felts of silk tissue, and merino wool slivers will be used. Create samples to arrange into pieces which can be used as scarves, draped wraps, garments or hangings.

Part one involves gathering dyes and plants to plan and create unique designs as a base and accent colours for your works.

Part two brings the nuno felt background into a final work. Extra silk metrage and fibres can be purchased if required.

Tutor: Deb Donnelly

As artist, teacher and curator Deb has exhibited with the Aotearoa felter’s group touring show, Windows on White, won national awards in nuno felting art pieces including unique use of silk for the NZ Quilt Symposium and the Westfield Style Pasifika fashion show. Selected nuno felt and natural dyed works have been shown in international galleries and shibori symposium catalogue publications since 2008. Having established her craft with other practitioners in nuno felt through World Shibori network and Aotearoa felters, Deb aims to push the boundaries of this fascinating art medium which collaborates naturally with local eco prints. She will share her experience at The Learning Connexion workshop.
