Our Times

In pursuit of a coherent curatorial contribution to New Zealand art, The Welcome Swallow Gallery has always emphasised art that presents a positive outlook. It is hoped that the art in the exhibition is seen and experienced as inspirational for both artist and viewer.

The past two years have seen many ongoing social challenges that impact with greater force on children facing incredibly tough lives. With this in mind the exhibition artists have reflected on how we have witnessed these times as they are translated into 'Our Times'.

As art sees and interprets life we may anticipate that this exhibition will contain illustrations and compositions that are designed to capture our interactions with the natural world. On this occasion the artists also draw further attention to their themes with apposite titles, artful language, designed to enhance viewer interaction and identity with the subject matter.
