Presented by The Incubator Creative Hub, join us at the Village Community Cinema for our latest cinematic concept series......
Picture This - The Inspiration Behind The Creation.
In this series, artists will share with us, the film that has influenced or inspired their artistic practice, analytically reflecting on their work in correlation with their chosen film.
On December 2nd, we will be joined by artist Dominique Ford as she shares insights into her artistic practice, followed by a screening of her chosen film, 'The Breakfast Club'.
Dominique Ford is a ceramic artist with a background in graphic design and children's book illustration.
At school, she would have liked to be sporty, brainy or popular, but alas she was the weird arty freak; and spent many entertaining hours in detention.
The Breakfast Club was released in 1985 when Dominique was sixteen. She recognised herself in the character of the 'basket case', and the familiarity of the stereotypical cliques that she could never belong to.
She has spent most of her life trying out different labels for size, and has finally discovered that 'weird arty freak' fits quite well.
The Breakfast Club is about how labels can define you or alienate you in the eyes of others. Ultimately it's how you label yourself that matters.
And the soundtrack is cool.
