Join mixed media artist Gerry (@gothgerry) for a piecing jam session where they’ll be taking you through the basics of tags, throws, pieces and straight letters. You don’t need to know anything about this style of art. The only thing they ask of you is to come, learn, play and create.
This workshop can only accommodate a limited amount of people, so please register with the gallery to ensure you get a spot! To register please email freshgalleryotara@aklc.govt.nz and or call 09 261 8030. Please provide your name, how many places you would like to reserve, a contact phone number, and an email address.
This workshop is held alongside the group exhibition 'My Dream called Sike' - an exploration of the mutually influential relationship between us and our dreams. This encompasses a variety of dreams; those we experience when we sleep, the dreams that guide our future, the dreams we have of rewriting our narratives, and the dreams that protect us. These visions of self-determination and escapism are fanciful, rich, and drawn from within.
Each artist investigates the unique way their conscious and subconscious psyches interpret the world. Asking the questions; are we in control of our dreams, or are they in control of us? Using the expression ‘sike,’ playfully meaning ‘I tricked you,’ the collective expresses that all dreams and personal eventualities can be sharply subject to change with very little notice.
'My Dream called Sike' is a collaborative exhibition supported by Unfold, a collective that unlocks the creative brilliance of the rangatahi in South Auckland and shares their stories. This exhibition is curated by the UCB (Unfold Creative Block), a subgroup of Unfold.
