Point Bush Ecosanctuary – A Conservation Vision for the Future

The Point Bush Ecosanctuary is in Waimate. The site is home to native birdlife including kererū (NZ wood pigeon), kārearea (NZ falcon), tūī, pīwakawaka (fantail), and titipounamu (rifleman). There are mature native trees such as the giant tōtara, mataī and kahikatea that survived the great fire of 1878. In recent years Bennett's wallabies have devastated this area, browsing out the understorey and destroying the chance of native forest regeneration. Now, the fenced Ecosanctuary has given the opportunity for the native forest to return – alongside public walking and mountain biking tracks.

At this public talk join Gary and Ann Dennision (Trustees of the Point Bush Ecological Recreation Trust) to hear about their journey so far and their 250 year conservation vision to protect and enhance this place for the community to enjoy into the future at a public talk hosted by Ōamaru Public Library.

Find out more at: pointbush.co.nz and on Facebook and Instagram. Enjoy a visit to this wonderful place at 230 Point Bush Road, Waimate.
