Preserving 101

The old arts are making a huge comeback!

Preserving is an art, a science and often becomes a passion.

Come and learn the basics of preserving food and simple techniques that will get you well on your journey! Learning to preserve is such a great skill to have, especially with rising food prices. Come by yourself or come with some friends for a fun morning of learning.

Denise; a Wairarapa local is an avid preserver and grows her own produce every year to put into jars, sauces and chutneys! She is renowned for her knowledge and delicious preserves of jams, fruit, chutneys, relishes, sauces and drizzles. She will take you through in easy steps how to prepare foods, prepare equipment and the pitfalls of the early learning process. Denise preserves hundreds of bottles each year and is a go-to for other locals for preserving tips! She will also briefly cover drying/dehydrating foods in this session too.

You can check out Denise’s channel for all things homesteading and preserving.

Greytown Hotel is hosting this event, so there will be a complimentary glass of wine/beer to drink whilst you learn. Tea and coffee will also be provided. If additional refreshments are required the bar will be open during the workshop.

Greytown Hotel is an Institution in Greytown having been here since 1860. The hotel bar favourite with locals and tourists alike! The 1860 restaurant (part of the Greytown Hotel) is a fan favourite with locals also, with its deliciously fresh and seasonal food offerings and local plus international drink selections. The hotel is run by a local family, who are great supporters of the greater Wairarapa community.

Come and visit for this class and perhaps you might like to stay after and have lunch in the 1860 restaurant.

This delicious lunch is an addition to the workshop ticket price. Please see add-on ticket details.

The set lunch menu will be a fantastic way to wind up your time in the workshop. Stay and Chat with Denise and other class members afterwards, or just grab a separate table for you and your friends. Dietary requirements must be advised at least 24 hours prior to the workshop beginning, and will be catered for.

We would love to host you for this fun morning of learning and if you can make it a relaxing afternoon lunch!
