Public Programme: Navigating using the Stars

A Public Programme connected with our Ngā Haerenga/ Journeys exhibition.

Using the stars to navigate and tell the times of the year has been an important resource for people for thousands of years all across the world.

Award-winning Wairarapa stargazer Becky Bateman from Under The Stars, guides you through reading our Winter night sky, using a mixture of Western astronomy and Māori star knowledge. By the end of the hour, you will be able to find south, know some important navigational stars, find your starsign and understand how the Maramataka is used. Everyone will receive a complimentary star map to take away.

This is an outside programme, starting at Aratoi and moving into Queen Elizabeth Park.
