Join us at the secluded Ronga Reserve in Rai Valley, Marlborough, for Forest & Bird's annual planting day. Under the shade of giant totara and matai, we'll be restoring the site with a variety of broadleaf and podocarp species. This year we'll be planting into clearings and extending our existing plantings to the original DOC restoration sites.
Ronga Reserve is a little-known reserve with giant podocarps and is known to host long-tailed bats. Over the last 10 years Forest & Bird, along with Nelson/Tasman Weedbusters and DOC, have been clearing weeds, planting trees, and will be undertaking some predator monitoring to inform future control.
Join us on site at 10am on Saturday 27th August, or meet at the Brick Oven in Rai Valley by 09:45am to convoy to the site. You will need strong footwear (gumboots are ideal) and gardening gloves are recommended. All other gear, including spades, will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own if you wish. We'll have a BBQ lunch courtesy of DOC, so bring along a salad to share. You will need your own plates and cutlery etc.
Phone Mandy on 027 376 3888 by 8am for advice or carpooling info.
