Hidden away in a small seaside community on Banks Peninsula are treasures from our seafaring past. From waka to whaling, shipwrecks to scrimshaw, these treasures tell the story of epic journeys across the seas and coastlines of Aotearoa New Zealand. Using a treasure map to find specific objects in the collections, your task is to solve the key and unlock your own piece of Okains Bay treasure.

Museum open: Wednesdays – Sundays, 10 am – 4 pm

Bookings are not required but capacity limits apply.

At the point of entry, all visitors over the age of 12 must please:
- present their ‘My Vaccine Pass’,
- record their visit using the NZ COVID Tracing App or sign-in sheet,
- wear a mask or face covering over their nose and mouth,
- maintain physical distancing of 1-metre from others not in their group.
