Fresh off the plane from a tour of Vietnam, award-winning ex-pat Steve Barry has kept his kiwi roots well-watered with regular pilgrimages home to NZ. Tonight he reunites with old friends in trio format, for an evening of both familiar and lesser-heard tunes from the Antipodean and American songbooks and a selection of music from his upcoming quartet release In The Waves.
Born & raised in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and for the last decade living and creating on Gadigal land in Sydney, Dr Steve Barry is a multi-award winning pianist, composer, improviser, and lecturer at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
Barry’s 2018 album Blueprints & Vignettes received a 4-star review in the Sydney Morning Herald and was longlisted for the 14th Australian Music Prize. His latest album, In The Waves, features drummer Eric Harland (USA) and saxophonist Will Vinson (USA/UK) and is set for release in early 2023.
