'Knowing Unknowns… Developmental Social Psychology and Human Knowledge' - by Professor Patrick Leman

How do we ever get to know anything? Research in developmental and experimental social psychology has sought to explain how children acquire beliefs and knowledge through their interactions with others, how the “messiness” of and structures in social life can interfere with or stimulate that process, and the forces that shape our beliefs and knowledge as adults.

This 35-minute lecture will present research across an eclectic mix of topics in social and developmental psychology - from moral judgment to collaborative memory, gender to beliefs in conspiracy theories - to demonstrate that, even for adults, knowledge is often a very vulnerable, and fundamentally a social, thing.

Professor Patrick Leman's Professorial Lecture will be held at the Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts at the University of Waikato in Hamilton, starting at 5.45pm. The Opus Bar will be open from 5.15pm to enjoy a refreshment prior to the lecture starting.

Free parking is available on campus via Gate 2B, Knighton Road, Hamilton after 4.30pm.

This is a ticketed event, please visit the University of Waikato website using the url link, then find the lecture date and register via Eventbrite. Remember to bring your eticket and face mask with you on the evening.
