Meeting at the Bowling Club to walk to catch the passenger ferry from Russell to Paihia.
At Paihia a van will take you to a section of the Pou Herenga Tai Twin Coast Cycle Trail (approx 30min drive).

Walking first - Just past Okaihau you will be dropped off to walk 9.5km downhill to Snow’s farm in the Utakura Valley where you will have lunch at the picnic spot by the river. You will pass through Puriri and Kahikatea tree forests and follow meandering streams. If you are lucky you will find the native orchid in flower.

After lunch, you will be transported back to Okaihau so you can cycle 14 km to Kaikohe. It is a scenic ride, passing through lovely farmland, Lake Ōmāpere and a tunnel. It’s a slight uphill to start with, then its level and downhill!

At Kaikohe your transport will await you, so you can be transported back to Paihia, where you will have the opportunity to explore Paihia and return to Russell on the passenger ferry when you like.

These sections are a beautiful part of the trail.

It is important that you do know how to ride a bike and have ridden a bicycle in the last few years.
