Kia Ora! ¡Bienvenidos! We’re back with Dia de Muertos Wellington 2022!
With Lime is thrilled to be present this year’s annual Dia de Muertos/Day of the Dead Festival on the 1st of November at the Wharewaka Function Centre. Festivities are from noon until 8 pm.
Throughout the day, you can come and encounter the offrendas (altars) or contribute to the public altar to honour a loved one, friend or even a dear pet. Make paper flowers and enjoy Mexican hot chocolate provided by Seleno Health (first come, first served). Learn about the history and meaning of Día de Muertos.
Join the festivities by coming as La Catrina or in your favourite Dia de Muertos outfit!
From 4.00-6.00pm, you can have your face painted as a calavera (sugar skull) or whatever you chose.
Our evening programme will start at 6.00pm. Our hosts, Ruben Puertos and Diana Resendiz, will guide you through the festivities, which will include:
• Mexican Folklorico dances by Ollin Yoliztli
• Special performance by Emiliano Fuentes Mancilla
• Calavera Fashion and Wearable Show (the first in Aotearoa!)
• Mariachi music by Mariachi Aotearoa led by Carlos Navarro
This event will be livestreamed, so even if you’re not in Wellington, you can share in the experience. Our online audience will be able to participate and contribute to the community altar.
Follow us on Facebook for event details and link to the livestream.
Supported by grants from the Wellington City Council.
