Six Wananga over three days:

Kono- Learn karakia, tikanga, harvesting, whenu production and hāpene. Learn to weave a basic four cornered kono usable for multiple purposes- Raranga.
Friday 16th 8am- 1pm

Muka- Introduction and step by step tutorial to make muka. This is the process of hāro, and following this learn the technique of miro to produce whenu and aho- (used in kakahu and tāniko)- Whatu.
Friday 16th 2pm - 7pm

Putiputi (flowers) - Raranga
Saturday 17th 8am -1pm

Introduction to waewae (mordent) Māori and customary Māori dyes (rakau, paru, etc...) - Whatu
Saturday 17th 2pm -7pm

Harakeke paper making - Toi
Sunday 18th 8am - 1pm

Muka earrings - Whatu
Sunday 18th 2pm - 7pm

Any experience level welcome.
Learn a new skills “he taonga tuku iho” (passed down knowledge).
Learn tikanga and karakia around whatu and raranga.
Noho kotahi.
Whakamana tō whanau.
Connect to Taiao.
Explore and express Māoritanaga.
Whakawhanaungatanga.
Learn steps, design skills and processes towards completing your own kakahu i.e korowai, kahuhuruhuru, heike etc…
Artist’s tips and tricks.

All kai, refreshments, materials and tools provided for every wānanga.
Participants get to take all their mahi toi home with them.

Kai (vegan), Wai rakau, Wai Māori, Kawakawa Kombucha, tī, kāwhē provided for all wananga.

Rangatahi (12-21)- $30 per wānanga
Rangatahi (22-35) - $50 per wānanga
Pakeke (36-64) $65 per wānanga
Kaumātua (65 +) $50 per wānanga
