This year for World Homeless Day Housing First Ōtautahi is holding a Photovoice exhibition at Tūranga library from the 11th – 14th October. The exhibition will feature photos taken by a group of individuals currently experiencing homelessness in Ōtautahi, sharing their own stories and reality of life living on the streets.

The purpose of the exhibition, in line with the purpose of World Homeless Day, is to shine a light on the lives of people experiencing homelessness in our own city, growing awareness that homelessness is something that could happen to anyone. There are many harmful stereotypes that people associate towards someone experiencing homelessness, without understanding the circumstances that have led to them sleeping rough. With this exhibition, we hope to encourage people to reconsider how they might view somebody living on the streets.

It's also an opportunity to learn more about the work that Housing First Ōtautahi is doing to support people experiencing long-term homelessness. Since 2018 we've housed 248 people who were previously long-term homeless.

We'd love to see you there - bring your whānau and friends along to view the exhibition throughout the week! The Tūranga Ground floor is open from 8:00am - 8:00pm everyday, and the exhibition is located in the Spark Place room at the back wall behind the stairs.
