For ages 18-35 - Exploring Buddhism together

oin us on our penultimate Young Buddhist evening of 2022 for a 7-fold Puja.
Seven-fold Puja – A brief Introduction
This a devotional practice, devotion to the Buddha, the ideal of Enlightenment.
We practice ritual and devotion to engage our hearts, our emotions.
A clear understanding of the teachings is not enough, we also need to have a deep feeling for them if they are to have a real impact on our lives.
The seven-fold puja evokes seven different emotional moods. It is adapted from a text written in the eighth century by a Buddhist monk, Shantideva, the “Bodhicaryavatara”.
It uses over-the-top flowery language, it incorporates actions of body, speech and mind.
1. WORSHIP – evokes beauty, we imagine the three traditional offerings; this is followed by a mantra and actual offerings. We’re engaging with the ideal.
2. SALUTATION – offers our respect
3. GOING FOR REFUGE – to the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha plus the precepts
4. CONFESSION OF FAULTS – we acknowledge that we fall short of our ethical ideals.
5. REJOICING IN MERIT – all beings do good
6. ENTREATY AND SUPPLICATION – we’re now receptive and ask for a teaching
7. TRASFER OUR MERITS - altruism
APPROACH it with your heart not your head, ENJOY IT! There’s light, there’s flowers, what’s not to enjoy!

Wellington Young Buddhists are a group of young people (18-35) that meet on a Wednesday evening to explore a topic on ‘Buddhism and everyday life’. Our group is aimed at young people and our unique experiences; be that dealing with difficult emotions, social media, new relationships, or addictive behaviours. We strive to hold a space for openness and manaaki.

Our discussions are self-directed, but guided by experienced Buddhist practitioners, who provide food for thought such as specific teachings or practices to take home.

We end with a short, guided meditation which connects to the topic discussed.

Folks of all backgrounds, cultures, and traditions are welcome.
Suggested koha/dana $5/$10/$15.

The Wellington Buddhist Centre gives people the tools to work with their minds. Now more than ever, we all need resilience, awareness and positivity. Teachers give their time freely and many volunteers help keep the Centre running.

Support the WBC with your generosity by giving what you can.
