Come one, come all singers! Celebrate the upcoming coronation of King Charles III with a Right Royal Sing-in in the beautiful Waiapu Cathedral! Let’s raise our voices together in grand anthems and hymns sung at previous coronations of British kings and queens. Expect to sing music like Handel’s Zadok the Priest and The King Shall Rejoice, Parry’s I was Glad, Vaughan-William’s O Taste and See and the Stanford Coronation Gloria. A full list of the music with links to suitable practice recordings will be available on the Waiapu Cathedral website www.napiercathedral.org.nz

The Sing-in is open to all-comers and all ages – though the ability to read a musical score is helpful. Anthony Tattersall, Director of Music at the Cathedral, will direct the event with the help of Michael Fletcher, of Wellington, who will accompany the choir on the mighty cathedral organ, one of the largest instruments in this country.

The Waiapu Cathedral Choir’s Sing-in events over the past few years have been great fun, with up to 100 singers gathering in the Cathedral to sing favourite movements from big choral works. The 2023 event will follow the same well-tried schedule. Doors open at 1 pm for the distribution of scores, introductions and a warm-up; then the music is practiced for a couple of hours. After a sociable tea-break, the Sing-in choir will perform the music they have learned in a short concert starting at 4:30 pm.
Registration is essential so that we can ensure we have enough scores for everyone to use. So, do register now at https://www.iticket.co.nz/events/2023/mar/coronation-sing-in Do tell your singing friends and fellow choir members about this event – it will be a lot of fun! And for those who like to listen rather than sing, the concert is open to all; buy your ticket via iTicket or at the door - just $10
