Come and join us and listen to classical and modern sounds that local pianists elicit from our baby grand piano to celebrate the end of the week. Every last Friday every month, 5-6pm at the Goethe-Institut in Wellington. We look forward to seeing you.
At the End of April, Liam Furey and Annabelle Thorpe will perform at the Goethe-Institut. Liam’s and Annabelle’s collaborations together began in 2019, when Annabelle premiered Liam’s “Sonata for solo viola”. Little did they know that this collaboration would be the first of many more.In 2022, Liam and Annabelle did their first duo performance, as Duo Inspiratio. Duo Inspiratio is invested in building programmes that challenge disparities in gender and race that are prevalent in western classical music.
Liam Furey first learnt piano when they were nine, inspired by classical music at eleven. Liam started to study at the New Zealand School of Music Te Koki in 2018, under the piano tutorage of Jian Liu and the composition tutorage of Michael Norris.
Graduating in 2022 with a Bachelor with Honours, Liam is interested in the power of repertoire. Curating programmes with a focus on contemporary and New Zealand music, they aspire to integrate genre, history and theory to discover novel approaches to musical thinking.
Growing up surrounded by a breadth of music, Annabelle Thorpe has always been musiking with those closest to her. From orchestra, to chamber, to working with contemporary composers, you can find her at any opportunity to collaborate and share music with others. She has completed her postgraduate studies under Gillian Ansell at the New Zealand School of Music Te Koki.
