Join us on a journey to the ice.

Antarctica New Zealand supports world-leading scientists with their ground-breaking research, New Zealand’s iconic Antarctic Heritage Trust, and the construction of a brand-new research facility in the highest, driest, windiest place on Earth!

‘Antarctica After Dark’ is back, offering an opportunity to learn about Antarctica – kanohi ki te kanohi – right from the researchers, conservators and Scott Base Redevelopment Project team.

Antarctica holds centuries of secrets frozen in its icy depths – secrets New Zealand scientists are beginning to unravel. In this public event, nine presenters will inform and entertain in succinct, bite-sized talks. The two-hour experience will leave you in awe of the great southern continent.

MC'd by Te Radar, you will hear from a range of Antarctic speakers:

- Prof. Richard Levy, GNS Science

- Rob King, Australian Antarctic Division

- Zack Bennett, Antarctic Heritage Trust

- Emeritus Prof. Pat Langhorne, University of Otago

- Madison Farrant, University of Waikato

- Hugh Broughton, Lead Architect for the Scott Base Redevelopment

- Anthony Powell, videographer and photographer

- Craig Stevens, NIWA

- With music from Jade Toali'i

While our speakers will take you to the cold of Antarctica, She Universe will be serving up free dairy free hot chocolates, on us! Come and join us in the Antarctic gateway city, Ōtautahi Christchurch. Get your tickets now, as this event has sold out in previous years!

Supported by the Christchurch Antarctic Office.
