Join science communicator and senior educator at Te Korowai o Mihiwaka, Orokonui Ecosanctuary Taylor Davies-Colley (Te Hikutu, Ngāpuhi) and practicing artist and lead kaiārahi/guide at Te Korowai o Mihiwaka, Orokonui Ecosanctuary Madison Kelly (Kāi Tahu, Kāti Mamoe, Pākehā) for an evening of observing, thinking, and drawing.

Enjoy an introduction to botanical naming and illustration, before being guided through observational drawing exercises of selected plant samples. Together participants will think about the implications of botanical naming, and learn to identify and record some of the traits that inform a naming process.

To end the session attendees will illustrate a mystery plant, visualising its physical characteristics by its name alone. This speculative drawing exercise is inspired by the collaborative illustration process between Jasmina Cibic and botanical illustrators to create the works in Charm Offensive.
