Micro Macramé Jewellery Artist Yoko Onishi

Yoko Onishi is an amazing Micro Macramé artist who has joined the ART Collective Project. She shares her passion in her artist bio: I am a Micro Macramé Jewellery Artist living in West Auckland with my husband and four children. I moved from Tokyo, Japan to Auckland with my husband twenty years ago and settled down my new life here with my new family. Now as my children are getting older, I have found more time to go back to what I enjoy the most, ART.

✤ Inspiration ✤
I was born and raised in Japan. A place where people love and respect traditional culture and hand crafts that are inspired and created by nature. I have always been passionate about arts and crafts, and I believe that we humans are gifted to be creative and are a part of nature.
My intention is to create something that communicates the harmony and beauty between human creation and nature. So I discovered macramé techniques, one of the oldest crafts in the world. I harmonised these techniques with crystals -which I believe are gifts from mother nature. My inspirations have come from nature and the many symbols that humans have designed over the years.

✤ Work ✤
I have been practicing micro macramé techniques to create my art for nearly 10 years. I started to learning the basics from books and the internet, as I couldn’t find anyone using this technique back then. When I finally felt happy with my works, enough to be able to exhibit them, I met Nicky Hartley who is also in Art collective. Back then she was managing a Gallery called East West Gallery, and with her and the gallery’s support, I had my works display there and also at West Coast Gallery in Piha.

My career slowed down a bit, up until a few years, when I had my youngest child. I have now set up my own website where I write blogs and display my works, I have also been back to Crafts Markets and workshops where I really enjoy actually meeting people and getting inspired. Feel free to contact Yoko @ 021.230.0325 or email: onishifuyou@gmail.com.
