Bill had visited the Auckland Islands five times in his search for the truth behind the legend and knows more about that stretch of inhospitable cliff face than anyone alive. Cristina's historical fiction book, Mrs Jewell and the Wreck of the General Grant, currently nominated for the Ockham NZ Book Awards, follows the story of the survivors and examines the people behind the tragedy.
