SingFest is the name of a series of events for community choirs, promoted by the New Zealand Choral Federation. This organisation encourages singing at all levels, promoting events for children (The Kids Sing) and secondary school students (The Big Sing) and workshops for choir conductors.
SingFests take place throughout the country, using slightly different forms in each region. Our local NZCF committee runs an event which includes a CONCERT in which the participating choirs sing a few of their favourite songs. This year the choirs performing are the Hastings Choral Society and the Choraliars (both from Hastings), the Central Hawke's Bay Concert Choir and the Hawke's Bay Community Choir, based in Clive. Each choir will perform 10 - 15 minutes of music, ranging from familiar folk songs to unusual tunes from other countries, carols and excerpts from shows. Then all the singers will present a short song which they have rehearsed under the direction of Hawke's Bay composer and conductor, Stephen Lange. So, for an hour of enjoyment on Election Day - come along to hear the music!
