This months session aims to give direction and ideas when it comes to funding to take your event to the next level. From funding applications to bringing on board event sponsors, our panel will pass on the knowledge they have from years of experience in events and the creative sector.


Our guest speakers for this workshop are both from Creative Northland, who offer our communities advice, marketing support for creative events, social media promotions, printing packages, workshops, hanging space, exhibitions, preservation of Te Tai Tokerau’s heritage and cultural history, and much more. They promote, support, encourage, and maintain the creativity of people in Northland across all disciplines of the arts.


Olivia Garelja – General Manager, Creative Northland
Based in Whangārei and a multi-disciplinary creative, Olivia is known for challenging perceptions of our natural world through her painted, crafted, and photo-montage works. Passionate about building the creative community in Northland and holding proven credentials, including a 1st class honours degree in Art and Design and a background of commercial experience, Olivia also works with numerous boards striving to bring more capability and capacity in the wider community through the arts. In her role as General Manager of Creative Northland, Olivia brings a multi-faceted kete of skills to the role, along with an abundance of energy. Olivia’s motto is, “we are all born creative and without creativity innovation can’t exist”. This underlines her philosophy towards helping any creative project or event build capacity and capability. Olivia’s creative energy propels and pushes the creative community in Te Tai Tokerau to think outside of everyday frameworks to achieve their potential.



Jo Roberts – Events Manager, Creative Northland
Jo’s experience in delivering popular, family-friendly events is second to none in Northland. Her repertoire includes organising the hugely popular Tutukaka Markets, Yoga Retreats across Te Tai Tokerau, and being a creative director for Coastal Creative Content. Jo’s drive to get the right people working together and attracting funding streams ensure that her vision for events comes to life in a vibrant and energetic fusion of creativity and organisation. Jo is a competent negotiator who relishes working with diverse partners to achieve the best fit in terms of sponsorship for her events. Jo is delivering ArtBeat 2024 which will see a refreshed delivery of a legacy event for Whangārei.


What is CommUnity After 5?


Join us for a series of free events aimed at growing capability of community groups through development sessions on relevant topics, each session also providing an opportunity for networking. Each session will run for 90 minutes. They will be held on Tuesdays, every 4-6 weeks. The talk will be from 5:30pm to 6:15pm, with the remainder of the time for networking. Free pre-registration required for each individual event.
