Did you know that approximately 25 community groups and businesses do conservation work on public land in and around Fiordland every year? From small groups of committed individuals to incorporated societies, charitable trusts, and local business operators, projects are spread throughout Fiordland from the Wairaurahiri River in the south to the Big Bay Awarua area in the north! Much of the work focuses on removing pests from native forest- an essential job to ensure New Zealand's biodiversity is protected, while other groups such as Permolat Southland help foster recreation by upgrading huts and tracks in the backcountry network.

Plus, conservation work doesn't just happen on public land, it also happens in backyards, on farms, school grounds and elsewhere in the communities we live in. We've invited a few folks leading local initiatives to share the stories of their work with tips and tricks you can try at home and opportunities for involvement.

Volunteers find the mahi rewarding..... come along to our information evening to find out more and put your hand up to get involved.

Registration is not required but seating space is limited and will be first in, first served.
