Containment — a Mixed Media Exhibition

A new mixed media exhibition - Auckland bag designer Emily Mahy collaborates with four notable design practitioners to celebrate and reimagine the work of her late father, the extraordinary glass artist Keith Mahy.

Each collaborator has drawn inspiration from a piece of Keith’s pioneering glass art, then worked with Emily to design and craft three utterly unique, sculptural objects that push the boundaries of what a fashion-focused, functional bag can be.

The simple concept of a vessel, or container, of which Keith made so many, is being valued and re-evaluated through his daughter's hands in collaboration with Katie Smith, Wendy Nannestad, Jodie Wilson and Meg Mahy. Through their design talents and Emily’s skills as a bag maker, new kinds of vessels emerge. The objects in Containment play in the feminine space of the everyday bag, but elevate it, honouring the notion of a container as something precious and rich in history.
