In celebartion of ConservationWeek / Te Wiki Tiaki Ao Tūroa the Pest Free Hibiscus Coast Project is organizing an exciting event at the Ōrewa library.

We will be distributing traps to residents in the project area who are willing to participate by recording what they catch.
The project's goal is to have one trap in every four backyards across the Hibiscus Coast, ensuring good coverage to protect the native wildlife. They encourage all residents, or "coasties," to get on board and support this important cause, even if they don't believe they have a rat problem or haven't spotted any rats on their property. According to our data, rats are still causing damage in the region, so it's essential to take action.

At the event, the Pest Free Hibiscus Coast team will be available to offer advice and support to existing project members who are already using backyard traps. This will help strengthen the community's efforts and enhance the effectiveness of the trapping initiative.
In addition to distributing traps and providing support, the event promises to be family-friendly, with fun conservation activities designed especially for kids. Engaging the younger generation in environmental awareness and conservation efforts is crucial for creating a sustainable and pest-free future.
This event is part of Conservation Week 2023 - www.conservationweek.org.nz
