Calling all glorious curious idiots of Ōtautahi Christchurch! Welcome to Feminist Clown Posse, South Island Chapter.

My name is Tessa Waters and I am a multi-award winning clown / comedian / cabaret carnie who moved to Lyttelton last year. I began Feminist Clown Posse with Anya Tate Manning in Wellington in 2021 to explore de-constructing the patriarchy within European clown training.

We created something truly magic. A safe, playful, courageous, joyful space celebrating all gender identities / expressions / explorations to come and play and train in clown / physical comedy / theatre. And now I'm a South Islander I'm keen to bring this work to my new home and connect with whoever wants to come and play.

What you will learn:
The focus of the workshop is on 'feminist' clown training - meaning we focus on positivity, disruption, silliness, vulnerability and celebration of diversity and difference. The majority of existing clown training in the world is from an older, straight, white, CIS male perspective and it is traditionally often an aggressive and misogynistic space. Within this course we aim to deconstruct the inherent patriarchy in clown training and create a safe space for all participants to find stunning joy, vulnerability and stupidity in their performance.

WHO CAN COME AND WHERE IS IT?
We are in the process of finding an appropriate space to host the workshops in central Christchurch but if you're keen or know someone that is, join / invite people to this group or DM me at @tessawaterscreative on instagram, with your email address.

This is a LGBTQIA+ Inclusive space and all genders, bodies, ages, abilities and sexualities are welcome. Ages 18+ (or discussion with me). Only rule is 'You can have a dick, just don't be a dick'.

You don't need to have theatre background or any experience just a keenness to explore and play.
