The Friends of the Christ Church Organ monthly lunchtime concert series for the month of September will feature Roy Tankersley from Palmerston North. Wednesday 6 September at 12.15, the theme is "Bach to the Future" a set of Bach’s youthful Prelude and Fugue in C minor and pieces by other composers using Bach’s name as B, A, C, H. ‘H’, in German, signifies the note B flat.

‘Bach goes to town’ written by blind Jazz pianist Alec Templeton, subtitled ‘Prelude and Fugue in Swing’ has become and perennial favourite and was played by Benny Goodman’s band in 1938. It is written as Bach might have written it if he were alive today.

The contemporary composer Hanz Zimmer used the mighty sound of the organ in the Temple Church, London, Temple as the basis for his soundtrack of the film ‘Interstellar’. ‘Day One’ and “Cornfield Chase’ will be featured. The concert ends with Albinoni’s celebrated Adagio which has become aligned with celebrating world peace.

Please join us for a free lunchtime concert Wednesday September 6th at 12:15!
