Footloose is the story of Ren McCormack, a teenage boy from Chicago. He and his mother move to the small town of Bomont after his father abandons them. Upon arriving, Ren finds himself at odds with most of the town, including the Reverend Moore. The Reverend has convinced the town to outlaw dancing, which Ren finds unbelievable. With the help of Ariel (the Reverend’s daughter) and Willard (a country hick who becomes his best friend), Ren strives to convince the Reverend to let the teenagers dance, and in the process heal the town from a tragedy that has affected them all.
Starring Ethan Te Raki as Ren and Greta McCaw as Ariel, East Otago High School’s production of Footloose is directed and choreographed by Kelvin Cummings, a talented singer/songwriter from Dunedin with Musical Direction from Meg Goodman, who brings her energy and passion for the arts. Other members of the cast are played by Years 7-13 East Otago High School students. Staff and students take on the remaining behind the scene roles.
The show promises to be a great night of musical entertainment for all the family.
