Explore not only Kate's triumphs, but the tragedies she endured throughout her long life too, with Helen Osborne, Property Lead at Te Whare Waiutuutu Kate Sheppard House.

The enriching talk covers some hidden details of Kate Sheppard's life and what led her to become the leader of the suffrage campaign in Aotearoa New Zealand. Discover how her personal qualities, talents, drive, the support of her family, friends and colleagues, and the encouragement of influential changemakers enabled her to successfully direct the campaign and achieve what no other country had managed to. And learn of Kate's sad life stories too, of loved ones lost, goals not met, and the effects of years of hard work and stress.

Kate was born Catherine Wilson Malcolm on 10 March 1847 in Liverpool, England.

Coffee and cake to be enjoyed on arrival at 1.30pm, with the illustrated talk commencing at 2pm.

Helen Osborne was involved in the research and development project for the museum and has a particular interest in Kate Sheppard and Aotearoa New Zealand's suffrage movement.
