Calling short film makers, students and anyone interested in learning more about what goes on behind the scenes in making movies. Join us for a full day of interactive professional development workshops, filmmaker talks, networking and screenings of short films. Presenters will be available for informal meetings throughout the day. Tickets provide entry to all of the following events, plus access to the garden bar and networking cafe.


Industry Day 1: Auckland Filmmaker Talk

Learn more about making short films in this moderated discussion with three top short filmmakers. Hear candid stories and have the opportunity to ask questions and meet others interested in filmmaking.

Industry Day 2: Networking Cafe

Throughout the day we invite you to chat with industry representatives informally at tables set up around the venue. Ask all those burning questions and meet people face-to-face.

Industry Day 4: Aotearoa Te Ōhākī

Discover the rising talents of new and established directors in this collection of short films from Aotearoa New Zealand. The films are loosely themed around the Te Ao Māori concept of Te Ōhākī - meaning cultural and identity reclamation. Find stories of people from different cultures who are feeling displaced or disconnected, and seeking their place in the world.

Industry Day 5: Awards Ceremony

Join us from the prize ceremony as we acknowledge and celebrate our best and brightest filmmaking talent. Show Me Shorts is an Oscar-qualifying film festival, meaning the winners of the coveted Department of Post Best NZ Film and Cause & FX Best International Film awards will become qualified for entry to the Academy Awards®! Glass of celebratory bubbles provided.

When: 5:30-6:30 pm, Sunday 8 October
