Make art that surprises and inspires!

The Gallery’s popular school holiday programmes offer drop-in, hands-on art making session that the whole family can enjoy.

Inspired by the current exhibitions, the programme changes daily.

Week 1:
Tuesday 10 January | Charcoal Art:
Experiment with ways to make art using charcoal. Draw, print and paint artworks with an eco message. DRESS FOR MESS.

Wednesday 11 January | Weaving Nature:
Use simple weaving techniques to create an artwork from wools, plant fibres and feathers. Older tamariki try your hand making string from cabbage tree leaves.

Thursday 12 January | Koru Cut Outs:
Create your own creature or kaitiaki (guardian) from under water. Cut out koru and kowhaiwhai motifs and collage together, adding dye to swim across your artwork.

Week 2:
Wednesday 18 January | ‘Ngatu’ Gift Bag:
Get inspired by Ngatu (Tongan tapa cloth). Invent symbols that tell your story, transfer to a kupesi (pattern board) then rub and ink to create a special gift bag.

Thursday 19 January | Animal Sculpture:
Explore 3D forms by colouring and sculpting honeycomb paper entwining upcycled materials to tell the story of an animal at risk.
