Kaipara Regeneration Project – Free Workshop

Sunday 30th April – 0930 to 1130

The Kaipara, whilst one of the most attractive and environmentally diverse areas of New Zealand, faces many of the same ecological challenges as other rural parts of the country. Agricultural, commercial and residential activities over the years have created many environmental issues impacting on water quality, flora and fauna habitats etc.

The Kaipara Moana Remediation (KMR) project is a local cooperative initiative being driven by council, local landowners, iwi and other stakeholders which is attempting to rejuvenate the area.

KMR objectives include helping with larger native planting programs so this workshop is also potentially an opportunity to learn about how they can help you or your community projects.

If you would like to know more about this interesting and ambitious project, Mandy Burnside, Fencing and Planting Coordinator from The Forest Bridge Trust, will be our guest speaker. Within this relaxed interactive presentation Mandy will explain the origins and objectives of the project and answer any questions you may have

Mandy is passionate about keeping stock out of our waterways which will help return the Kaipara Harbour to cleaner water and then we and our children will be able to go fishing and collecting scallops in the future. Mandy lives amongst 100 year old native trees on a covenanted lifestyle property in Tomarata.

After the workshop you may like to buy tickets to stroll through the Sculpture Gardens, which are a 4 star Gardens Trust Garden, as well as the native forest trails located adjacent to the Plant Centre.*

There are also games areas and many ideal locations to sit and enjoy a picnic as well as our cute little coffee shop in which to relax.

Please note that the gardens and trails are not suitable for wheelchairs or walking frames *
