The Kimbolton Settlers Celebration is a free entry, fun filled family day out, on Waitangi Day 6th February 2023 at the Kimbolton Domain.
There will be vintage cars, tractors, and farm machinery to pore over.
Take part in old-time games – sheaf tossing – caber tossing – horseshoe pitching - coconut shy, crosscut sawing, tug-o-war and gumboot throwing. Let your youngsters have a go at the old-time children’s games and a hay bale maze for the little ones.
Grab a hot dog and chips, coffee, or ice cream.
Watch the grand parade of vintage cars and tractors led by a pipe band from the Domain to Hansens café and back starting at 1:00pm
The highlight of the day at 2:00pm will be a Kimbolton, Apiti, Kiwitea, Waituna West school’s Boat Race Challenge involving a team of six students racing a flintstone style boat from one side of the football field to the other while throwing water bombs and flour bombs at competing teams.
Followed by the famous Oroua Top Town Trophy, a battle between Kimbolton, Apiti, Rangiwahia, Kiwitea and Cheltenham communities competing for the coveted Top Town Trophy and $500 cash.
Teams will combine beauty, brawn, skills, brains, and a certain degree of cunning involving hay bales, hay bale rolling, boats, water and flour bombs and other distractions. Who knows what will happen in the mayhem.
The public will vote for the best dressed team and will be expected to cheer and urge their team of choice on to get to the finish line first.
Get your team of eight together for the Tug-O-War competition held once the Top Town Trophy has been decided and have a go at the Gum boot throwing, Sheaf tossing and Caber tossing competitions.
To round off the day enjoy a BBQ meal of spit roasted lamb, bread roll and salads. Tickets for the BBQ can be purchased during the day with a limit of 100.
Hansens café will also be open during the day for those wanting a bit of time out and some fine cuisine.
Dress up in your best old-time settler’s day clothes and come along for a fun filled day.
Gates open at 11:00am until night fall.
