On the 1st of November, Friends of the Christ Church Organ present Iain Tetley!! Ian will be playing a short lunchtime organ recital at Christ Church, 243 Wicksteed Street. This is the final recital for 2023 of an ongoing series of monthly half-hour concerts, raising funds for the organ’s maintenance to keep it in good repair, to support its use by as many people as possible as a community instrument, and to ensure its future. The concert starts at 12.15pm on Wednesday 1 November, entry is by koha, and all music enthusiasts are welcome.

Iain Tetley has established himself in the musical life of the city of Whanganui since moving here from Pukekohe in 2018. He has been the conductor of the local choir Schola Sacra since 2019, and of the Whanganui Collegiate School Chapel Choir since 2021. He conducted the Mozart Requiem with Schola Sacra and full orchestra in Big School at Whanganui Collegiate in 2020, he combined three local choirs and Brass Whanganui to conduct The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace on Anzac Day 2021, he conducted a very successful concert of Coronation music with Schola Sacra in July this year, and in August he took the Collegiate Chapel Choir to sing an Evensong service in Wellington Cathedral.

He also sings as a tenor soloist in concerts around the country, from Auckland to Dunedin, his most recent large scale venture singing as the Evangelist in a performance of the Bach St Matthew Passion with Auckland Choral, and the next singing, also as the Evangelist, in Bach’s Christmas Oratorio with Auckland specialist choir Bach Musica in December, both occasions in the Auckland Town Hall.

He was also seen by enthusiastic audiences of Amdram Whanganui’s production of The Phantom of the Opera in March this year, playing the role of the Phantom, an experience he very much enjoyed.

Join us for this musical delight!
