Friends of the Christ Church Organ presents David Dobson for our August Lunchtime Organ concert!

David has presented numerous organ recitals throughout the lower North Island. Whanganui and Waverley are two of his favourite venues. He is delighted and grateful to be invited back for these 2023 concerts. This year his Whanganui programme features organ music of the 19th Century, by somewhat lesser-known composers such as G.A.Brandt, Herbert Sumsion and Pietro Yon, but all displaying different moods – from grand and dignified to playful and quirky.

In Waverley, next day, David’s programme will include music by J.S. Bach and several English composers. He will re-present two of the works played in Whanganui. The unique organ in the Church of the Good Shepherd will offer an interesting and different tonality than that of the bigger organ in Christ Church. He welcomes you to one or both concerts!

A bit about David:

Immediate Past President, Wellington Organists’ Association.
Councillor, N.Z. Organ Preservation Trust.
Performer, Composer and Arranger.

David is currently one of the musicians regularly providing liturgical music in the Catholic Parish of St Francis of Assisi, Ohariu. He also plays for Mass at St Francis de Sales, Island Bay, and for services at the First Church of Christ Scientist, Wellington, meaning his weekends are rather full! But the opportunity for ecumenical and musical partnerships is significant for David, as church music has always played an important part in his life.

Please join us August 2nd at 12:15 for a free concert! Koha at the door is appreciated!
